“If you don’t start out too big for your britches, how are you gonna fill em’ when you grow up? Let it rip regardless of what anybody tells you, that’s my idea; sit down and smoke that baby.”—Stephen King (introduction to the Dark Tower series, being 19)
“It was always the same, and it made him tired. They wanted help, but they also wanted references. A parade of witnesses, if they could get them. They wanted rescue without risk, just to close their eyes and be saved.”—Stephen King - The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla (via ranceporter)
Hello there! Thankyou for blogging my picture of Susannah here - getting quite a bit of traffic from you now, say thankya ^.^ I'll also like to add that this is a very cool blog and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!
Well you’re welcome, I really liked it! And pictures and drawings of Susannah are pretty rare to find. I hope you’ll find some time to draw some more Dark Tower related stuff :)
You mentioned in one of your posts that a new book from Stephen King was expected in 2012, and you had implied it was a Dark Tower related book. Is this accurate? Is he really writing another tower novel?
It is totally accurate, there was an official news on the official website and you can read what Stephen King said about that right here. It’s a 100% Dark Tower book and the news says that he already finished writing it :D
So apparently they’re working on the site. And I’m assuming that with a countdown clock set 100 days from now, it must be something big. It’s not the next book, because that doesn’t come out until 2012, supposedly. So….. O_O!
(I like the idea of an ancient Las Vegas. It already goes along with how I described Walter’s experiences with it… As far as actual description of it, I can offer what my mind’s eye sees and yay or nay may be given.
There is a singular building that is the main focus of the city. The center or the zenith of the form. All other buildings around it are inferior in size and in splendor. The building is dark, of course, and rises 99 stories into the air. There is something within, but it’s not specifically certain what. A relic of power? Wealth? Evil? Either its auras do not penetrate the walls of the building, or the walls are stifling it on purpose. There is still a song, though. Voices can be heard.
Most of the city is buried beneath the desert. This will allow more interaction over the scale of the place and not have to worry about treks around it. Things and people will be easier to find this way. It will also place more emphasis on the main building itself.
Graffito is very present, and it signifies that the city was occupied by warring tribes until very recently. No signs of native dwellers remain. It is all empty save for those who have a purpose to be there.
There are several tracks that run through the city and its surrounding areas. Most of them are elevated such as the monorail in New Vegas is, but there are a few stations for loading and unloading passengers. Ka has decided that Blaine is indeed connected to these rails and may travel about them freely.
That’s all I have for now, but I’ll try to envision more and add to the details.)
How would you all feel about making this city a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas? Particularly a question geared towards those of us who have read or seen The Stand, though obviously it applies to all the players. Because our Flagg is so involved, I feel like perhaps it could give our bad guys (Flagg, Jonas, Trash, and Farson) a leg up. And that’s always good for a plot!
We could collaborate on a setting description and post it to the Beam Tumblr, or I could write one. I feel like post-apocalypse Vegas would work well to play off of what itsnineteen already wrote.
I think that so far everyone who has been a part of the role play has done an excellent job of feeling out the world for themselves and making it congeal with everyone’s mental image. However, as we begin to move more in depth into the plot, perhaps a solid description of setting would be beneficial to the creative thought process of our beloved contributors. We know there’s a city, but that’s about it. If anyone has a suggestion or preference, do not hesitate to make it heard. Long days and pleasant nights!
We really need some more antagonists, so people need to start joining. We could use Clay and Roy, John Farson, Mordred, even the Crimson King himself. Come on people there have to be some more interested!
